A Students Guide to Lit. Circles

F.A.Q.

  • What is a Lit. circle?
    • It’s an in-class “book club” of 2-5 students.
  • How often do we meet?
    • You will meet once a week for about 30 minutes.
  • What will we do?
    • You will discuss a book that YOU have chosen to read.
  • Will we be graded on this?
    • Yes!  Your notes will be counted in your experiential grade and there will be a summative assessment (group project) at the end of each quarter.

Goals of Literature Circles

  • To allow you the power of individual choice about what you read.
  • To help you develop literary analysis skills that you’ll need in college.
  • To give you a chance to talk about what’s interesting and important to YOU in what you read.
  • To give you the opportunity to read different kinds of literature than just what we read as a whole class.
  • To encourage you to learn how to listen to and lead others in a discussion.
